The
Quiron Project
The Horus Institute is a partner to IDEAAS
(Institute
for the Development of Natural Energy and Sustainability,
Porto Alegre - RS, Brazil) and to the German Canopus
Foundation, from Freiburg, in the development of the
Quiron Project, which integrates environmental conservation
and sustainable development.
The project has several components:
- Use
of renewable energy for production and income generation.
- Management
of native grasslands for cattle production.
- Control
and erradication of invasive alien species.
- Use
of native species in forestry for fuel wood, commercial
wood production, shelter for cattle and wind breaks.
- Generation
of carbon benefits through forest restoration of degraded
areas.

The
Institute for the Development of Alternative Energy and
Sustainability (IDEAAS), from Porto Alegre,
has developed a project to provide solar photovoltaic electricity
at low cost for people in rural areas in Rio Grande do Sul.
The Quiron Project makes use of this model and incorporates
the above mentioned elements in order to allow people to
remain in rural areas by adding to their life quality and
income.
